VSCO, the video editing platform, is rolling out a range of new AI-driven photo editing features, including support for high-res RAW images, non-destructive editing, and smart detection of content areas.

These AI capabilities will be accessible through a new section named “AI Labs,” which introduces AI-based object removal similar to the tools offered by Google and Apple.

By highlighting or circling an item in a photo, VSCO can substitute it with a background that blends seamlessly. The company explained that its “intelligent area detection” ensures the background is merged smoothly after removing an object, without altering the image’s resolution or color accuracy.

VSCO asserts that, unlike many AI removal tools that sometimes leave visible traces, its solution offers greater accuracy and detail retention, making it more suitable for professionals.

VSCO also announced an upcoming AI feature called Upscale, which is designed to enhance image resolution and sharpen details, all while maintaining the original quality and composition.

These new tools are powered by Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext model.

AI Labs features are exclusive to VSCO’s Pro subscription, priced at $12.99 per month or $60 annually, available through the VSCO Studio app for iOS. There are no restrictions on how often users can access the AI Labs tools.

“From the very beginning, VSCO has championed genuine creative expression and equipped photographers with diverse tools to help them succeed. We recognize the significant influence AI has on photography and are committed to delivering AI features that empower photographers to achieve creative mastery while honoring their craft,” stated Eric Wittman, CEO of VSCO.

To strengthen its competitive edge, VSCO has been expanding its suite of editing tools. In May, it introduced an AI-driven whiteboard for photographers and clients to collaborate on projects, and last year, it launched a marketplace to connect photographers with clients. Earlier this year, the company unveiled Workspace to assist with managing appointments and schedules.
