Aave DAO considers scaling back its "multi-chain strategy" and gradually discontinuing zkSync, Metis, and Soneium instances
Jinse Finance reported that "Aave currently maintains multiple V3 instances, each of which incurs operational costs and exposes the protocol to risks. It is believed that the revenue generated by several of these instances is insufficient to offset their associated costs and risks," a representative of the Aave Chan Initiative (ACI) stated in a "Temp Check" in late November. Although this has not yet entered the formal governance process, the heated discussion may signal a strategic shift for the largest decentralized lending protocol—one that has historically adhered to a "maximum coverage" philosophy when deploying on new blockchains. Launched in 2018, Aave is currently the world's largest decentralized lending protocol. According to data from The Block, its outstanding debt on the Ethereum network accounts for over 81%. The project is now deployed on at least 18 blockchains, including numerous Ethereum Layer 2 networks, as well as alternative Layer 1 networks such as Aptos and Sonic. Now, as the main representative platform of Aave DAO, the Aave Chan Initiative (ACI) appears to be considering scaling back some of this expansion and setting stricter requirements for future deployments.
