WALL STREET JOURNAL: President Trump admits tariff policy may cause recession, but says avoiding depression is primary goal
On 10 April, US President Donald Trump privately admitted that his sweeping and high tariffs plan unveiled last week could lead to a recession but that he is more concerned about avoiding the economy slipping into a depression, CNBC reported, citing the Wall Street Journal. Kevin Hassett, director of the U.S. National Economic Council, said the collapse in the bond market prompted Trump to adjust his trade policy.
