According to Jinse Finance, sources reveal that the United States is working to reach a provisional trade agreement with India, aiming to lower the tariff rate imposed on the country to below 20%. Unlike many other countries that received tariff hike notifications this week, India is not expected to receive a formal tariff demand letter. Instead, both sides may announce this trade arrangement through a joint statement. This interim agreement will create conditions for ongoing negotiations, giving India room to address outstanding issues before a comprehensive agreement is expected to be reached this fall. Sources indicate that the statement may set a benchmark tariff rate below 20% (the initial proposal was 26%) and include provisions allowing both parties to continue negotiating the final tariff rate. The specific timing of the interim agreement remains unclear. If ultimately concluded, India will become one of the few trade partners to reach an agreement with the Trump administration.
