Arkham: Tesla holds 11,500 BTC, not 9,720
Arkham disclosed on social media that contrary to many reports, Tesla's balance in the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings is 11,500 BTC, the same as our figures. It is widely believed that Tesla holds 9,720 BTC since its last BTC sale in Q2 2022. This appears to be due to an error in reading the quarterly report, which calculated the quantity of BTC based on book value rather than fair market value. You can easily see this in the recent filing submitted by Tesla to the SEC. As of December 31, 2023, the fair market value of Tesla's BTC was $487 million, with a total of 11,500 BTC based on the fair market value of $42,000 on that day.
