Swiss National Bank willing to expand digital currency project
Antoine Martin, a member of the board of directors of the Swiss National Bank, stated at the Point Zero Forum event in Zurich that the Swiss National Bank is willing to expand its central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot project. We hope to see the pilot project continue to develop, with more banks joining and transaction volumes increasing. Last month, the Swiss National Bank stated that it will continue to provide CBDC for at least two years and extend the pilot project called Project Helvetia III, which began last year. Six banks, including Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank, have participated in the project, which has issued six digital currency bonds with a total value of CHF 750 million (USD 830.38 million).
