Bitcoin Dug Out Empty Block at Height 866508 45 Minutes Ago
On October 20, according to mempool data, miners mined an empty block (i.e., a block containing only one transaction with the block reward Coinbase) at Bitcoin Height 866508, just 36 seconds after the last block height.
Miners pack empty blocks for financial reasons, and it's the smartest thing for miners to do. In order to fully utilize this time to mine and avoid conflicts with transactions packed in the parent block, miners cannot fill the block with transactions, which means they can only attempt to mine empty blocks.
