Paul Atkins hopes to let "Crypto Mom" Hester Peirce lead cryptocurrency policy
On December 5, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump nominated Paul Atkins to be the next chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). An industry insider said that Paul Atkins recently expressed his hope for Republican Commissioner Hester Peirce and her Republican colleague Mark Uyeda to lead cryptocurrency policy.
Hester Peirce is known as "Crypto Mom". Previous reports have stated that Peirce hopes to lead an internal cryptocurrency working group, which will partially reassess the agency's regulatory approach towards digital assets and establish open dialogue with the industry. Peirce's term will end in June this year, and it is currently unclear whether she would be willing to be nominated again. Meanwhile, Mark Uyeda's term will last until 2028.
