The attack extended beyond hot wallets, with hackers infiltrating devices to access cold wallets and centralized exchanges.

Screenshots from their Discord reveal that a “ malicious third-party actor ” accessed their GitHub via a stolen token, injecting a Remote Access Trojan into legitimate builds. Some users even reported that hackers compromised their Coinbase wallets.

The tool contained keylogging malware , capturing private keys, emails, and even ID photos to create fake exchange accounts.

DogWifTools automates token bundling; a method often used to disguise supply control in memecoin scams. A team member claimed the breach stemmed from a stolen GitHub token.

Social Media Troll Victims

Following the alleged attack, blockchain sleuths estimate that hackers drained over $10 million from users’ wallets.

Community reports suggest that DogWifTools required intrusive permissions, potentially allowing scammers to access sensitive data, including ID photos stored on victims’ devices.

The draining of funds is still ongoing, with new users reporting compromised wallets. A Discord user, prucel, said, “No one’s getting a refund. If you play a dirty game, you must be ready for something like this.”

Despite the losses, the crypto community on Twitter responded with sarcasm, given the nature of the compromised tool.

On-chain investigator ZachXBT remarked : “Hopefully the hackers leak an entire db with info of the users (scammers).“
