- Metaplanet’s treasury strategy targets 210.000 BTC
Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet has significantly expanded its bitcoin position by acquiring an additional 1.234 BTC for approximately $133 million. The new purchase was announced just a day after the company announced it had raised $515 million through a share offering.
According to the official statement, the bitcoins were purchased at an average price of $107.557 per unit, bringing the company's total assets to 12.345 BTC. Based on current market prices, this amount represents approximately $1,3 billion in cryptocurrency.

With this move, Metaplanet surpasses Tesla in the ranking of largest corporate holders of bitcoin, leaving behind the 11.509 BTC registered by the electric vehicle manufacturer. The update places the Japanese company among the seven largest public holdings of the cryptocurrency, according to data from bitcointreasuries.net — which has not yet incorporated the latest acquisition.
The latest purchase is in line with the so-called “555 million plan,” a strategy that aims to secure up to 1% of the entire BTC supply in existence. This ambitious goal calls for accumulating more than 210.000 BTC by the end of 2027, according to targets released by Metaplanet in early June.
Despite the aggressive expansion into digital assets, Metaplanet shares fell 0,94% as of midday on Thursday, according to data from Yahoo Finance. The weekly performance shows a cumulative drop of 12,2%, but the stock still registers an appreciation of more than 350% in 2025.
