Vitalik Buterin: Although I have always supported permissive licensing, I am now more concerned about copyleft
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, wrote an article titled "Why I used to prefer permissive licenses and now favor copyleft", in which he pointed out that he has always supported permissive licenses, hoping to maximize the adoption and dissemination of works. Releasing with permissive licenses helps achieve this, as permissive licenses clearly state that anyone who wants to develop based on my work does not need to worry about any issues. In addition, from a philosophical perspective, he does not like copyright, but appreciates the copyright left-wing idea of "using copyright to counter itself". However, this idea has now changed, starting to focus more on Copyleft, because open source has become mainstream, pushing companies towards open source is more feasible, with companies like Google, Microsoft, and Huawei embracing open source. Secondly, the competition in the cryptocurrency field is becoming more intense, driven by profit motives.
(Note: Copyleft is a concept and licensing method that is opposite to traditional copyright. Copyleft licensing requires that derivative works based on the original work must also be open source in the same way, ensuring that the work remains open and shared in the process of dissemination and development.)
