The U.S. Treasury Department is accepting donations from Venmo and PayPal to help pay down the huge national debt
as reported by American media, Americans can now donate to the Treasury Department through Venmo and PayPal to help pay off the national debt. Over the past 29 years, Americans have donated a total of $67.3 million, but it has had almost no substantial impact on the current national debt of $36.7 trillion. A screenshot posted on X by an NPR reporter on Wednesday shows a page on the Treasury Department's official website where donations can be made to the national debt project through Venmo and PayPal. According to Axios, Venmo's maximum single donation limit is $999,999.99, and even with this amount, donations would need to be made every 18 seconds to keep up with the pace of national debt growth. It is currently unclear when the option to donate through Venmo and PayPal was added to the website.
