Sources: Trump Expands Fed Chair Candidate List to 11, Including Veteran Wall Street Strategists
According to a report by Jinse Finance citing CNBC, two government officials who requested anonymity revealed that the Trump administration is considering 11 candidates to succeed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell when his term expires in May next year, including three individuals who have never been publicly nominated before. These new names include Jefferies Chief Market Strategist David Zervos, former Fed Governor Larry Lindsey, and BlackRock Global Fixed Income CIO Rick Rieder. They join the previously confirmed list of eight candidates by CNBC, which includes Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, Fed Governor Christopher Waller, and Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson. Officials also confirmed that the list features Mark Zandi, who served as an economic adviser in the Bush administration, Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan, and former St. Louis Fed President James Bullard. The officials described a “deliberative process” in which Treasury Secretary Bessent will meet with all candidates, narrow down the list, and submit the final shortlist to the President for a decision. The size of the list and the process described suggest that a decision is not imminent and may take a considerable amount of time. However, the officials declined to provide a specific timeline.
