Anthropic experienced a disruption this afternoon that affected its APIs, Console, and Claude services.
At approximately 12:20 ET, users on platforms like GitHub and Hacker News began to report problems with Claude. Anthropic issued a status update eight minutes later, confirming that its APIs, Console, and Claude AI were experiencing downtime. At the time of writing, the company stated it had put several solutions in place and was actively monitoring the situation.
“We’re aware that our API briefly went offline just before 9:30am PT today,” an Anthropic representative informed TechCrunch. “We restored service promptly.”
Anthropic has previously encountered bugs and errors with its platform, particularly involving Claude and its associated models over the last several months.
While waiting for Claude to be restored, some users made light of the situation and joked about what to do during the outage. A GitHub user commented that software developers were left twiddling their thumbs, and someone on Hacker News referenced a previous incident, saying: “Nooooo I’m going to have to use my brain again and write 100% of my code like a caveman from December 2024.”
