Google's proposed ad tech sale falls short of Justice Department requirements
lawyer for Google said on Monday that Google had considered selling some of its advertising technology business to address antitrust concerns in Europe and the United States, but the proposal from the U.S. Department of Justice to force the sale of its ad exchange platform goes far beyond that. Google's outside counsel said the Justice Department is demanding a "complete technical separation and divestiture" of Google's ad exchange platform, AdX. The Justice Department and Google will begin a two-week hearing next week to discuss whether the company must sell off part of its business after a judge ruled that Google illegally monopolized two ad tech markets. "Google has considered divestiture," the lawyer said, "but this is completely different from the Department of Justice's proposal in any way."
