Ripple CTO is exploring native staking functionality for XRP
Foresight News reported, citing Thestreet, that Ripple CTO David Schwartz has proposed a new model involving staking. The discussion originated from a lengthy post by Ripple Senior Director of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele on the X platform, exploring the possibility of adding staking functionality to the XRP Ledger. Currently, the XRP Ledger uses a Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus mechanism, where validators reach consensus on XRP transactions every 3-5 seconds, while blockchains such as Ethereum and Solana use Proof of Stake (PoS) protocols. Akinyele stated that with the launch of the first US XRP spot exchange-traded fund, the ecosystem is entering a new phase. Introducing native staking would require addressing two major issues: the source of staking rewards and the method of fair distribution.
