Google hints at its upcoming Google Home speaker featuring Gemini technology, set to launch in spring 2026

On Wednesday, Google unveiled an early look at its upcoming flagship smart home product, the AI-driven Google Home speaker, which is set to debut in spring 2026. This $99 device will be powered by the company’s Gemini AI assistant and will be available in four shades: Porcelain, Hazel, Berry, and Jade.

According to Anish Kattukaran, Google Home and Nest’s Chief Product Officer, the later release date is a deliberate decision by Google, as he explained during a press briefing prior to Wednesday’s announcement.

The company’s priority is to roll out Gemini features to users with older Google Home devices first, allowing time to address any issues. These users will have the chance to access Gemini through Early Access, provide their input, and report any problems, Kattukaran noted.

“It needs to function well for our current users. We don’t want to require you to upgrade unless you choose to,” Kattukaran stated. “Of course, we think you might want to, but it’s not a necessity,” he continued.

Designed specifically for Gemini, the new speaker will feature a processor capable of running Gemini AI, as well as managing background noise reduction, echo effects, and echo cancellation. This ensures the speaker can distinguish your voice when you’re interacting with Gemini Live, even if someone else in the room starts talking.

Additionally, the device will include a light ring at its base, providing more dynamic visual cues to indicate what Gemini is doing—such as listening, processing, reasoning, or replying in Gemini Live mode. (Gemini Live will require a Google Home Premium membership.)

Regarding audio features, the Google Home speaker will deliver 360-degree sound and can be added to speaker groups—sets of speakers that play audio together—within the Google Home app, just like before. Now, users will also be able to pair two Google Home speakers with a Google TV Streamer, Google’s TV streaming device, to create a surround sound experience, a feature that has been highly requested.

The device’s exterior is made from 3D-knitted fabric, which is designed to minimize material waste and be more environmentally friendly.

Google intends to release the new speaker in spring 2026 across the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
