The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ended the emergency flight restrictions that were put in place during the 43-day government shutdown, returning regular operations to 40 major airports across the United States and easing worries about travel interruptions during the holidays. The announcement, made late Sunday and taking effect at 6 a.m. ET on Monday,

which had previously led to a 6% cut in flight operations. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and a drop in staffing "trigger events" from 81 on November 8 to only one by November 16 as reasons for lifting the restrictions.

The shutdown left thousands of FAA workers either without pay or on furlough, worsening staffing gaps and forcing the FAA to reduce flights, which led to significant delays and cancellations. Airlines
