tcoratger: Philosophy: Verification vs. Trust. Centralized entities rely on "don't be evil." Ethereum achieves "can't be evil" through protocol constraints. It has built a trustworthy, neutral platform that allows users to verify state instead of trusting the solvency of intermediaries. The world computer is different from specialized protocols; Ethereum embraces general programmability. It is not designed for infinite scalability (such as LLM inference), but for global consensus. It maintains a singleton state that is unaffected by geopolitical pressures. Beyond DeFi, blockchains also arbitrate transaction ordering. Without consensus, peer-to-peer networks would allow double-spending. Practicality extends to "Proof of Inexistence"—using cryptography to prove the scarcity of an asset or that a certain event did not occur. Blockchains running in isolation have weaknesses: transactions are public, decentralization limits speed; latency below 50ms inevitably means centralization. They cannot directly access real-world data and must rely on oracles. The solution is programmable cryptography. ZKP verifies without exposing data. MPC/FHE performs computation on encrypted inputs. This shifts the paradigm toward collaborative computation without centralized intermediaries. Gas limits are increasing. Key upgrades include EIP-7732 (PBS), allowing validators to spend more time processing blocks without causing centralization. Block-level access lists enable parallel transaction processing, breaking the bottleneck of serial execution. Synchronizing history requires TB-level data and several days. zkVMs change this. By verifying execution with SNARKs instead of recalculating history, computational demand drops to nearly zero. This makes native mobile nodes possible, further enhancing decentralization. FOCIL allows a broader set of validators to propose "mini-blocks," improving the guarantee of transaction inclusion. Account abstraction smart wallets enable key rotation and social recovery without centralized reliance. The long-term goal is a lean Ethereum, including optimization of the technology stack: zk-friendly hash algorithms (Poseidon), formal verification, Single-Slot Finality, and quantum resistance. The focus is on security, simplicity, and mathematical optimality.
