Cronos, the blockchain network supported by Crypto.com, has launched the x402 PayTech Hackathon, a global developer competition with a $42,000 prize pool.
The event is designed to explore AI-driven payments on the blockchain, where software agents can automate financial transactions without human intervention.

Participants will experiment with x402 agentic payments, the Crypto.com AI Agent SDK, and Cronos’ blockchain infrastructure to create projects that automate payments, interact with decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, or integrate real-world assets into the blockchain ecosystem.
Developer Participation and Ecosystem Integration
Reportedly, developers will have access to technical resources, workshops, and office hours covering Cronos EVM , x402 programmatic payments, and AI agent tools.
The hackathon encourages experimentation with automated wallet actions, real-world asset integrations, and interactions across the Crypto.com ecosystem.
Top-performing teams may receive follow-up support, including grants, incubation opportunities, or deeper integration into Cronos projects.
Platform Upgrades and Strategy
The hackathon is part of Cronos’ strategy to position itself as a high-performance platform for AI-enabled financial applications.
The network recently upgraded its infrastructure to reduce transaction fees by ten times, increase daily transaction capacity by 400%, and shorten block confirmation times to under a second. These improvements aim to make Cronos a faster and more efficient environment for real-time, automated blockchain operations.
Cronos operates three chains (Cronos EVM, Cronos POS, and Cronos zkEVM) and supports over $6 billion in user assets. Its ecosystem includes more than 500 developers and an addressable user base exceeding 150 million.
Registration for the hackathon opens immediately on DoraHacks , with the building period running from early December through late January 2026.
Why This Matters
The hackathon is one of the first opportunities to test AI agents that can autonomously transfer value, highlighting the growing intersection of AI and blockchain technology.
