AMD Lisa Su: Current Global Computing Power Is Far From Enough, Needs to Increase 100x in the Next 5 Years

Glonghui Jan 7｜Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), delivered a keynote speech on AI ahead of the opening of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and unveiled several new AI chips, including the AI chip MI450 and the Helios desktop. She emphasized that the AI wave will continue to develop, but the current computing power is far from enough compared to what could be achieved. "The speed and pace of AI innovation over the past few years has been astonishing, but we are only just getting started." Lisa Su pointed out that AI is rapidly evolving from a tool to an infrastructure, and that global computing power demand in the next five years will increase 100 times from the current Zetta level to 10 YottaFLOPS, with computing scale soaring 10,000 times compared to 2022. Such a cross-generational leap relies not only on innovation in system architecture, but also on breakthrough advances in process technology. She announced that the MI500 series processors will be launched in 2027, with performance expected to reach 1,000 times that of the MI300 series first introduced in 2023.
