Disney+ to Introduce Short-Form Videos in the U.S.
In response to the popularity of platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, Disney has revealed plans to launch short-form video content on Disney+ for U.S. viewers later this year. The announcement was made during Disney's Tech + Data Showcase at CES 2026, aiming to increase user engagement on the streaming service.
According to a company blog post, this new feature will continue to develop, expanding into both news and entertainment. Disney promises a more tailored and interactive experience, positioning Disney+ as a go-to platform for daily visits.
Disney shared with Deadline that the upcoming videos may include original shorts, curated clips from social media, memorable moments from movies or series, or a blend of these formats.
Erin Teague, Executive Vice President of Product Management for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, explained to Deadline, “We’re exploring ways to incorporate vertical video that align naturally with how users interact with content, ensuring a seamless and cohesive experience.”
This initiative follows Disney’s earlier rollout of a customized vertical video feed within the ESPN app last year.
By adding short-form videos to Disney+, the company is looking to attract younger audiences who prefer quick, mobile-friendly content over traditional long-form programming.
Disney+ is not the first streaming service to experiment with vertical video. For example, Netflix introduced a vertical video feed last year, allowing users to browse short clips from its original shows and movies.
