December Employment Overview
According to the latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there was little change in both total nonfarm payroll employment, which increased by 50,000, and the unemployment rate, which remained at 4.4% in December. Job growth was observed in sectors such as food services, drinking establishments, health care, and social assistance, while the retail trade sector experienced job losses.
This update is based on data collected from two separate monthly surveys. The household survey provides insights into labor force status and unemployment rates across different demographic groups. Meanwhile, the establishment survey offers detailed information on nonfarm employment, working hours, and earnings by industry.
