Represented by the ISO code UAH and symbolized as ₴, the Hryvnia replaced the Karbovanets due to hyperinflation following the collapse of the Soviet Union. This currency, sometimes written as Hryvnya or Grivna, is subdivided into 100 kopiykas. The Ukrainian Hryvnia is the sole legal tender in Ukraine, and it is used for all transactions within the country.

The Ukrainian Hryvnia is issued by the National Bank of Ukraine, which is the central bank of Ukraine. The National Bank of Ukraine is responsible for the printing and circulation of the currency, as well as for maintaining the country's financial stability and economic development.

The Hryvnia's name is derived from a medieval measure of weight in the Slavic region.
