JUST IN: Is the Government Shutdown Crisis in the US Coming to an End? An Insider Speaks Out

The storm of closed-door talks raging in the Senate corridors for weeks appears to be finally coming to an end.

The most serious move toward ending the shutdown that has paralyzed the US government for more than a month has come from Democratic senators. Multiple sources told Axios they are ready to advance a spending package that could reopen the government.

The move represents a significant easing of the debate, a move not seen in recent years. According to both Democratic and Republican sources, at least 10 Democratic senators will support bringing the package, which includes spending bills and short-term stopgap funding, to a vote.

Sources say a key part of the agreement is a promise to vote in December on extending Obamacare tax credits. This would allow the parties to combine technical regulations to end the shutdown with a temporary budget while also making progress on a politically critical issue.
