U.S. Trade Deficit Narrows in October

According to a joint report from the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the nation’s trade deficit for goods and services dropped to $29.4 billion in October, a significant decline of $18.8 billion from September’s revised figure of $48.1 billion.

Exports for October reached $302.0 billion, marking an increase of $7.8 billion compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, imports fell to $331.4 billion, which is $11.0 billion less than September’s total.

This reduction in the overall trade deficit was driven by a $19.2 billion decrease in the goods deficit, bringing it down to $59.1 billion, and a $0.4 billion reduction in the services surplus, which now stands at $29.8 billion. The report also notes that, so far this year, the cumulative goods and services deficit has risen.
