Thursday, January 8, 2026 – Bitcoin is currently trading at US$89.749,26, accumulating a 2% drop in the last 24 hours. This decline marks the end of the brief recovery that began in early January and drags the rest of the cryptocurrency market into a new correction.

In recent sessions, BTC lost momentum after being rejected at the $95 resistance. Since then, it has been fluctuating in lower ranges, with unsuccessful attempts to regain the $93 mark. Early this Thursday, the asset was trading below $90 again, maintaining a market capitalization of around $1,8 trillion and a dominance of approximately 57%.
Among alternative cryptocurrencies, the worst performer is Zcash (ZEC), which depreciated by 16% in 24 hours, now trading at US$407,69. The sharp drop comes after the unexpected departure of one of the team's key developers, which shook investor confidence and put pressure on the price.
Another asset leading the day's losses is Provenance Blockchain (HASH), trading at US$0,02245, with a significant drop of 20%. The sharp decline reinforces the risk aversion sentiment among investors, especially in less established projects.
Despite the general downward trend, some cryptocurrencies managed to stand out positively. Canton Network (CC) rose 2,6%, trading at US$0,1382, while Monero (XMR), known for its focus on privacy, advanced 2,5%, quoted at US$454,63.
The rest of the market also suffered corrections: Ethereum (ETH) fell to the US$3.100 range, BNB retreated to below US$900, ADA traded below US$0,40, and XRP depreciated by more than 6%, being quoted at US$2,10.
With this widespread pullback, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization fell by approximately US$100 billion, now totaling US$3,17 trillion. Tokens such as PEPE, UNI, SUI, and CRO also registered significant losses throughout the day.
