On Friday, Japan emphasized the necessity for seamless international trade following reports that China was holding up Japanese imports and restricting rare-earth shipments to Tokyo, intensifying their ongoing dispute. Tensions have risen since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi indicated in November that Japan might respond with military action if Taiwan were attacked—a move China has threatened to make by force if required.
Japan's chief government spokesperson highlighted the importance of ensuring that the country's exports of agricultural, forestry, fishery products, and food items proceed without obstacles.
