Eurogroup Initiates Search for Next ECB Vice President
During the Eurogroup meeting held on December 11, 2025, the procedure to appoint a new Vice President for the European Central Bank, as Luis de Guindos approaches the end of his term in May 2026, officially began. The nomination period has now closed, resulting in six candidates being put forward: Mário Centeno from Portugal, Mārtiņš Kazāks representing Latvia, Madis Müller of Estonia, Olli Rehn from Finland, Rimantas Šadžius of Lithuania, and Boris Vujčić from Croatia.
The Eurogroup is scheduled to review these nominations at its upcoming session on January 19. After this discussion, the Council will put forward a recommendation to the European Council regarding the appointment.
