Key Market Events This Week

Investors are paying close attention to the comments made by JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon following the company’s earnings announcement.

This week’s agenda is packed with major bank earnings, inflation figures, and a variety of important economic and corporate updates.

Several leading financial institutions—including JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs—are set to launch the new earnings season. Additionally, results from Delta Air Lines and Taiwan Semiconductor will be under the microscope, offering insights into both consumer spending and the technology sector’s momentum.

Market watchers are also awaiting December’s inflation numbers, as well as updates on retail sales, housing market activity, and the U.S. budget deficit.

Scroll down for a detailed schedule of the week’s most significant events—and a special highlight at the end.

Bank Earnings Take Center Stage, TSMC in Focus for AI Growth

The fourth-quarter earnings season officially begins on Tuesday with JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s largest bank, releasing its year-end results. The bank recently announced it will become the next issuer of the Apple Card. Last quarter, banks posted strong performances, and analysts anticipate further gains to close out the year.

Despite these positive outcomes, JPMorgan’s CEO Jamie Dimon has cautioned that economic uncertainty remains high. Wells Fargo, which has projected slower net interest income growth for the year, will report on Wednesday. Reports are also expected from BNY Mellon and Goldman Sachs.

Taiwan Semiconductor’s earnings will reveal whether chip manufacturers can maintain robust revenue growth amid soaring demand for AI chips. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines’ results will provide a look at the travel sector’s recovery following last year’s government shutdown and a sluggish spring travel season.

Inflation Data Arrives Amid Fed Rate Debate

December’s Consumer Price Index, due Tuesday, will offer a fresh look at inflation, which previously slowed to 2.7%. Additional delayed reports on wholesale inflation for October and November may further clarify pricing trends and their impact on the economy.

Federal Reserve officials, who remain divided on the timing of potential interest rate cuts, will be closely monitoring this data. Several Fed leaders are scheduled to speak this week, potentially offering clues about future policy moves.

November’s retail sales figures will shed light on the 2025 holiday shopping season, as consumer spending continues to drive economic growth. Delayed new home sales data for September and October, along with updates on existing home sales and ongoing affordability challenges, will provide a snapshot of the housing market. The budget deficit report will also update tariff collection figures.
