Monthly Macro Monitor: Unchanged
Assessing Opinions on President Trump's Economic Approach
As President Trump’s second term approaches its first anniversary, discussions surrounding his economic strategies remain largely unchanged. This ongoing debate is driven more by political perspectives than by economic analysis—a reality that influences both the general public and professional economists, who are not immune to political leanings.
Generally, Democrats strongly disapprove of Trump’s policies and view the current state of the economy negatively. Independents tend to have a slightly more favorable outlook compared to Democrats. In contrast, Republicans are optimistic, believing that the economy is thriving and poised for further improvement. This partisan divide is clearly reflected in the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment survey.
