Trump will head the biggest US delegation ever to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos next week
Trump to Lead Largest-Ever U.S. Delegation at Davos Forum
U.S. President Donald Trump is set to attend the upcoming World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, next week, heading what organizers describe as the biggest American delegation in the event’s history.
According to the Geneva-based organization, Trump—whose recent foreign policy moves regarding Venezuela and Greenland have sparked debate among allies and adversaries—will be joined by five Cabinet members and other senior officials. The gathering runs from Monday through January 23.
This year, the forum expects to welcome 3,000 participants from 130 nations, including 850 CEOs and board chairs from leading global companies.
World Leaders and Notable Attendees
Borge Brende, the forum’s president, announced that six of the Group of Seven leaders—including Trump—will be present. Other prominent figures slated to attend include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, and a total of 64 heads of state or government—a new record that could rise as the event approaches.
China’s delegation will be led by Vice Premier He Lifeng, who is Beijing’s chief trade negotiator.
Additional high-profile guests include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as well as technology leaders such as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
U.S. Delegation Details
The American group will feature Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, along with Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Forum Background and Criticism
Since its inception in 1971, the World Economic Forum has served as a platform for discussion, negotiation, and partnership-building. President Trump has participated twice in person during his presidency and made a virtual appearance last year shortly after beginning his second term.
While some critics argue that the forum primarily benefits global elites at the expense of ordinary workers and marginalized communities, organizers maintain that their mission is to “improve the state of the world.” They emphasize the involvement of advocacy groups, scholars, and cultural figures in the event.
Leadership Changes at the Forum
This year marks the first annual meeting not overseen by founder Klaus Schwab, who stepped down last year. Interim co-chairs Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, and Andre Hoffmann, vice chairman of Roche Holdings, have taken over leadership duties.
