Hogs See Improved Prices on Tuesday
Lean Hog Futures Show Modest Gains
On Tuesday, nearby lean hog futures saw slight increases, rising by 20 to 30 points. The USDA did not release a national base hog price in the morning due to limited trading activity. As of January 9, the CME Lean Hog Index had slipped by 25 cents, settling at $80.60.
According to the USDA's Tuesday morning update, the pork carcass cutout value dropped by 97 cents to $92.13 per hundredweight. Among the primal cuts, only ribs and bellies posted gains. Monday's federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 497,000 head, which is 1,000 fewer than the previous Monday but 13,474 more than the same day a year ago.
