U.S. Treasury Secretary Meets with Japan's Finance Minister
On January 12, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent held discussions with Japan’s Finance Minister, Satsuki Katayama. During their meeting, Secretary Bessent expressed gratitude for Minister Katayama’s participation in the United States’ summit focused on critical minerals. He highlighted the vital role that securing critical minerals plays for democratic countries.
Secretary Bessent also reiterated his strong support for the partnership between the United States and Japan, and commended Japan’s constructive involvement in addressing global minimum tax matters within the OECD framework. Additionally, he acknowledged the challenges posed by significant fluctuations in exchange rates and underscored the importance of maintaining prudent economic policies.
