Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Withdraws from Re-Election Amid Fraud Allegations
On Monday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz unexpectedly ended his campaign for a third term following revelations of a massive fraud scandal involving the alleged misappropriation of billions in public funds during his administration. Walz, a Democrat and former running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, had only recently announced his intention to seek a third term in September. Since the 1960s, when the gubernatorial term was extended to four years, no Minnesota governor has secured a third term.
Reflecting on his decision, Walz stated, "When I declared my candidacy for a third term as Minnesota’s Governor in September, I was confident that with full commitment, I could achieve that goal."
