US media: Iranian Speaker threatens to cut off shipping in the Mandeb Strait
BlockBeats News, April 5 — According to NBC News on April 3, the Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, appeared to threaten to block commercial shipping traffic through the strategic Bab-el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea. According to the report, Ghalibaf posted on social platform X: “What share of the world’s oil, liquefied natural gas, wheat, rice, and fertilizer shipments pass through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait?” He further wrote: “Which countries and companies have the most cargo transported through this strait?” In recent years, ships passing through this area have repeatedly been attacked by Yemen's Houthi militants, who are aligned with the Iranian regime. The threat to the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait comes as Iran has already largely cut off shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which has plunged the global economy into chaos.

British media: UK seeks to attract Anthropic to expand its operations in the country
Odaily reported, citing the Financial Times, that the UK is seeking to persuade Anthropic to expand its operations in the country. According to sources cited by the newspaper, proposals from the UK government to Anthropic range from expanding its office in London to a dual listing. Anthropic and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters. The office of UK Prime Minister Starmer has consistently supported the work of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and when Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei visited the UK at the end of May, the UK planned to make this proposal to Amodei. Previously, the US government had blacklisted Anthropic, identifying the company as a national security supply chain risk because Anthropic refused to allow its AI chatbot Claude to be used by the military for US surveillance or autonomous weapons systems. A US judge has temporarily blocked the blacklist, and the AI startup has filed a second lawsuit disputing the supply chain risk designation, with the case currently ongoing. (Golden Ten Data)
